Evolution, Enlightenment

Consciousness, evolution, enlightenment – these are interpenetrating and always have been.

There is a dreamer of this world, who else could it be but our Self? We’ve been here, timelessly. We’ve partaken in the birth and death of countless stars before we took our part in the evolution of life on Earth.

We were the first algae that breathed the air and created oxygen, the first creatures that swam in the womb of the sea.

We were the dinosaurs and their tiny mammal companions, we were the wooly mammoth and the hominid. We were present during the first glimmers of language and imagination. The priestess and the shaman, the King and the hunter, it was none other than our Self, looking through an infinite variety of eyes.

It’s all been a dream of Self.

It is high time we recognized the Mind behind the dreamings of this world is none other than we. The Mind that has seen the rise and fall of civilizations, like mountains that erupt into being and erode to the deserts of the future. The mind that bore ancient civilizations bears our own culture and people, today. We are none other than that.

The conscious “Me,” let alone any observable “thing” of the world, is like the tip of a multi dimensional iceberg. Our imagination and our mysticism, the poet and the seer, have tapped into wisdom and memory of this Mind, in various contexts and cultures. We “tell more than we know” because we are more than we know. The whole cosmos, including ourselves.

Again and again, we are born in form and die from that form. The universe is the story of ever-becoming, “born again” to Self.

Not even human beings are the end of the story. The constant eruption and shifting pulls us out of “settling for less,” than who we are.

I died from minerality and became vegetable;
And from vegetativeness I died and became animal.
I died from animality and became man.
Then why fear disappearance through death?
Next time I shall die
Bringing forth wings and feathers like angels;
After that, soaring higher than angels –
What you cannot imagine,
I shall be that.”
